    Noob preparing for purchase

    Hey everyone,

I am a Noob to this site and have not owned a Subaru, but will be purchasing a new/used ride in the next couple of months.

I was looking to go back to muscle cars (first car was a '69 Camaro), but winter just hit and I don't think that it's going to be very practical when it starts snowing here in Massachusetts.

So I'm looking at wrx's because my buddy had one in college and we had a lot of fun autocrossing it. I had a '99 Prelude at the time, but it just wasn't fast enough to be fun. My price range is between $18,000 - $22,000 and I'd like to go STI but don't I'm not sure I can get one for those $$ with less than 30k miles. Also, I don't want some modded out car with 70k miles on it.

I'd like to get any advice on buying that you experience wrxers have to offer.

    Thanks

There is a car purchasing area of the site. You might post there, or, you might notice that this thread gets moved there.

You aught to be able to find an 06 TR within your price range. I prefer a wagon, but, you have to go up to the standard WRX to get the wagon and that is just slightly above your numbers.

I'm 3 months deep into my 06 TR and loving every bit of it. A little more power and some suspension upgrades would satisfy me even more.

My only real complaint is the notchy shifting and turbo lag inconsistency. Some days it flies with ease, others it has to be pushed harder than normal to enjoy my spirited driving. Many times I notice the weather significantly changes this.

you can find a new 2006 WRX TR for your price range. If you are a few months from buying, there might be one left somewhere, but 2007's are only a little more and you get a year newer car. ...or you should be able to find a used 2006 WRX somewhere in your range too.

Yup, it sounds like a TR would be the perfect fit for your budget.
I might be back in the market for the new STI sedan!

Agreed. I know what you mean, and would venture to say that this is a pretty common thing with our cars...last night I was running it at 29F and it was killing it....obviously the colder it is the better the turbo will run, but theirs more to it than just that....I don't know but you said it best sometimes it just gets up and goes and other times it seems like it takes a little longer to get that thunder...one thing I've noticed, if Ive been on it for a while, it reacts quicker, if I've been cruising at highway 2700 rpms in fifth for a while, thats when it takes longer to get going....anyways sorry to hijack....TR for the win, or if your lucky you MIGHT find a leftover 06 limited...that would be teh sweet.
