Getting WRX soon - Need advice! :-)

Hi all! New to this forum and planning on buying a used WRX sedan soon. Anyone have any advice on model years, reliability problems, etc.... basically anything to look out for. Also, which is the most predominant color among you guys - I'm looking for a blue or red one myself but the yellow is also tempting. I also plan on mods down the road after Xmas.

Lastly, how does it handle in the snow?

    Thanks!

    Greetings and welcome!

People have widely varying opinions about which models years to choose ("Bugeye" vs. "Blobeye" etc.). You would really do best by forming your own opinion by searching around. A great place to start: Support Threads (FAQ): Everything you need << This is a sticky at the top of this forum.

The 2002 - and earlier 2003 manual transmissions were a bit on the weak side. From the later 2003 on through 2005 Subaru started to beef up the gear sets.

    Have fun browsing about.

Thanks for the advice and the warm welcome. I have narrowed it down to an 04 or 05 STi just for the added hp from the factory. Now I just have to locate one now! Oh Santa are you out there!?

it took me about 5 months to find my car, but it was worth the wait. i would also like to suggest the silver, not only because it looks very nice but also because you won't be a cop magnet ina silver car. red and yellow are sweet, but i would rather a clean silver and a lower insurance payment

**UPDATE**- bought a blue 03 WRX (non-STi) sedan today! One owner low mileage (17K on the odom) and extremely well-care for car! No door dings, oil changed every 3k, owners manuals in the glovebox, etc.. THIS IS ONE HELL OF A MACHINE! Oh did I mention that it also came with a rather loud, sporty aftermarket exhaust on it? Haven't checked to see which brand it is but it is rather too loud for my taste and I might have to switch it out with a stealthier performance exhaust. Also, occassionally a squeaking-type sound can be heard going over bumps in the car - my wife seems to think that it is the exhaust rubbing up against something under the car.
Can anyone lend any insight if this has occurred on your car or someone you know?

    THANK YOU SANTA! THANK YOU!

    Long live the WRXs!
