    Considering a 2002 WRX w/ 76,000 mi...

    Hey Group,

Just wanted to get some expert opinions... I am considering buying a 2002 WRX Wagon with 76,000 miles on it. I have met the guy and have driven it twice. He has taken meticulous care of the car. My question is, am I going to be getting into the period of the car's life where there is going to be a lot of repair costs? I can't afford that. Are they pretty reliable if driven sanely?

I had a '96 SHO which almost put me in the poor house..

    Thanks,
    Jim

Does it have any mods like intake, bov, or anything else? Because some modded wrx's are best to stay away from.

But, if it is stock and you did a carfax on it maybe go for it. I would also have a mechanic check everything out on it. Subaru's are very reliable and great cars if they are maintained and taken care of.

    Whats the cost?
    Any mods?

Your best bet is to stay away from any cars with the following:

    BOV (Blow off valve)
    CAI (Cold air intake)
    BC (Boost Controller)

If it has a TBE on it make sure the guy did some engine management like using the Cobb AP. If he didn't walk away. Trust me, you won't regret it.

But, if the price is reasonable (Probably between 12K and 14K depending on the condition and title) I say go for it.

No it does not have any mods, except some minor stuff like different shocks, a sway bar in the back (if that is what it is) it goes between the shock towers. He's asking $13,500.

    Thanks guys!

Get him to open the hood and check for the mods listed above yourself.

Also, I would suggest getting the tranny looked at to make sure it's not on it's way out as most of the '02-'03 trannies are weak and tend to die early. I'd go with an '04-'05 if you could swing the extra $$$.
