    hi i'm new

hi all, this is my wrx tr. i know it's the same as every WRB WRX out there but i'm proud of it.

i had a couple of questions for my fellow wrx owners.

1.) this is my first manual car. what's the best way to take off from a stop sign? I'm not asking how to launch i just want to know how to take off before people behind me start honking. right now i hold my rpms at like 1500 and then slowly let off the clutch. the only problem is it takes a couple seconds and people in automatics behind me get pissed. i've only had the car for 3 days but i'm sure i'll get the motions down faster.

2.) for whatever reason shifting from first to second is harder than all of the other gears. i have to slowly release the clutch when i shift into second or else the car makes a little buck. my 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are smooth as butter, it's only 1st to 2nd i'm having trouble with.

that's all for now, i'm taking her back later in the week to get the spoiler put on and the windows tinted. thanks in advance for the answers and i look forward to being a member of club wrx.

I have been driving manual for about 9 years and my first to second isnt the smoothest thing in the world either. When I first started driving my wrx it was like I had to learn how to drive stick all over again. I have heard that awd are harder to drive... BTW welcome to the club...

Welcome! I've been driving manual for over 20 years and it still took me about 3 weeks to really get hang of it. My first to second shift isn't always smooth if I rush it; I suggest just going easy (screw the impatient bastards) a take time to learn it well. Also, the clutch felt really stiff when I first got the car, much better now.

Driving my wife's Toyota Corolla after the WRX is like driving a wet sponge. Time to upgrade her car as well :-)

    and welcome to The Club!!!!

Very nice WRX, and +3 on staying wingless!

My '02 WRX is my first manual and I've only been driving stick for 10 months now! While I don't stall-out anymore, 1st to 2nd quick shifts are still occasionally jerky! Just be patient and keep practicing. And if you stall-out on the major roads, just relax and restart the car, who cares what those automatic driving pussies are thinking!!!

You'll get alot better as time progresses.

Have you tried using the ' no gas method? ' It's semi-easier for newbies, I suppose. What you're supposed to do is slowly let off the clutch, and if you do it smooth enough, the car will start going, and that's when you accelerate. Alot faster than revving and slowly letting the clutch go, because you'll be moving with the no gas method.

Sorry if it's a bit vague.
