    I'm curious to know if there is a power outlet in the hatch area of the 2006 WRX.

    No, there is not. I believe that is an Outback or Forester option. Although, for some reason, in the accessories brochure for the WRX it lists the spotlight thing that can plug into what it specifically says is the rear power outlet. (first revision of the accessory brochure)
