    Good idea?

Hey guys, this is my first post. Im seriously looking at the wrx (bugeye) as my second car. I think its relatively inexpensive and seems fun to drive. I'm 25. I currently drive a 2004 mbz SL500 (w/sport package). I would love to get an amg model but can't afford a car that is well over $100k. I can't really afford to fix that up because it is too expensive, a reentech intake is like almost $5,000. I want something I can fix up without breaking the bank and the additonal room would be great. I've been looking on autotrader, i don't want to spend more then $12,000. I see some for less but the miles are kind of high. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, and welcome to The Club!!!!

WRXes usually maintain a higher blue-book value because they are an enthusiasts car. I'm not sure where you live, as price varies by location, but in the mid-atlantic area you won't find a WRX with under 55k for $12k. But the WRX is a great platform for modding and making a great rally car (or a quick daily driver). Definitely check out the stickies (threads labeled "Sticky") in the Car Purchasing forums, etc. because they provide very useful advice! Especially with what to look out for in terms of car abuse from former-owners, etc.

Also, here are some links I suggest you check out just to give you more insight:

And here's great coverage of FAQs from NASIOC.

    Good luck!

welcome, and $12k is about the going rate for a bugeye with decent milage.

I'll be selling my 02 in a few months, but with 100k miles I'm really not expecting more than $10k-$11k.
