Cool Just saying hi (Evo owner here)

How you guys doing? I am a long-time Mazda dood (four Miatas, RX-2, RX-7, RX-8, MX-6), who just bought an Evo IX.

I talked my brother into getting a WRX wagon back in 03 or so, and have over the years helped him install a Kartboy short shifter, up pipe and down pipe. Driven his car a fair bit and have a lot of respect for WRXs.

I mighta bought a new STi but I didn't like the nose so much and they wouldn't allow anyone to test-drive them. Plus I wanted a sunroof and wasn't nuts about the blue STi seats.

Anyway, just wanted to check in.

The salesmen wouldn't let anyone test drive the STi, period, or did they say you had to get approved for financing first? And, how old are you and what were you wearing when you went into the dealership? If you are 19 or 20 or something like that and come into a dealership not dressed decent, they may get the idea that you just want to go on a joyride and I could see why they wouldn't in that case. If you convince them you are serious about buying one, then they should've let you test drive it.

Thanks for the kindly welcome, guys. I know what you mean about the test-drive issues, but I'm a professional in his 40s and a father who was, at the time, driving a pristine red RX-8 and wearing business casual clothes.

They let me drive the Legacy GT and a WRX sedan, but they said they absolutely will not anyone test drive STis because the STi purchasers all insist on getting their cars with no appreciable mileage on them.

I smiled and shook my head and said, "OK, well, I'm not going to buy it if I can't drive it first."

I have had the Evo for one week and two days but I have not yet lensed it. It's a red IX with the Sun, Sound and Leather package, and except for the sunroof it looks precisely like the stock photo below, except I pulled off the wing (wife's orders) and am replacing it soon with the smaller, Lancer wing.

I'll post some of my own pix once I get that wing installed. Thanks again for the warm welcome. I really like this car. If you want to read more of my thoughts on it, please see this thread: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...=174314&page=1

P.S. Once I get the Lancer wing on it should look like this Evo VII, except my wheels and tail lights are different. (I am saving the big wing for occasional use and office display ):

Thanks. Yeah, for some reason I felt drawn here.

Funny thing is, I grew up in an area of L.A. where the real Chuck Norris used to live. He drove around a Benz sedan (license plate "Topkick"). Not sure if he still lives down there. What a stud he is.

I like the Lancer wing just as much, If I was 40 i'd want to stay as low key as possible, to avoid getting revved on by a younger crowd.

    Welcome!

I love the IX with the lancer wing on it. I wish subaru guys had a low key wing like that. I like that much better than the stock wrx or sti wing...
