So I've had my '16 for a month now and according to the dealer the first oil change is recommended at 6k miles? Anyone wait that long??
Thanks in advance
It's not like your dealer is going to deny a warranty claim b/c you changed the oil too frequently... if it helps you sleep better and your budget can absorb it, why not. I've always erred on the side of "too often" myself.
I think the evidence we have so far, based on UOAs and longevity threads etc over decades, is that if the owner errs on the side of caution and changes the oil more frequently than the manufacturer specifies, the engine will likely last 200k, whereas if the owner only changes the oil as often as the manufacturer specifies, the engine will likely last 200k.
hahahahaha. I agree. I think I have mentioned in other threads that I changed mine at 10K intervals with Wal-Mart synthetic and the Buick 3800 was still running well at 250,000 miles. Can't say about Subaru though. I am about to do my first oil change at 3500 miles on the WRX. Just after 3000 I began to see a noticeable difference in 'blackness' of the oil on the stick.
I did the 1,000 mile change and will change again at 6,000 or 6 months, which ever comes first (6 months from 1,000 mile change). I will change the oil every 6K miles or 6 months for as long as I keep the car. I have oil changes free, at the 6K/6 month intervals for the first 2 years. I have a short daily drive and I have other choices to drive, each day. I also tend to change cars about like some people change their socks.
every 3000 miles!!!! If you want to do every 6000 i highly suggest upgrading your oil pickup then! I learned the hard way with my 2011. blew my bottom end. I now have a full built 2011 with bigger turbo, still changing every 3000 miles.
