    2016 Harmon Kardon HU...MP3 player?

First, the HK system is amazing, the sound quality is outstanding. I came from an audi that had a 10 speaker Bose system with a sub, so I was spoiled by that sound quality, and this is right up there with it, perhaps even better

My question is, and it appears much to my disappointment, that the CD player does not have an internal memory to save music does it? My aftermarket HU on the Audi had a 30gb internal storage to store music, which was awesome so I didn't have to tote around CD's in my sunvisor like I did in the 90's LOL!!

I know I can store music on my phone and play this via bluetooth, but it is so nice to have stored music whenever you want it.

if you open up your glove box, there are 2 USB ports there, you could hook up 2 64GB thumb drives in there, and get 128GB of MP3 storage

4x what the audi offered you! MIND BLOWN

but no, there is no hard drive in the head unit, atleast not for storing music. I havent payed with it yet, but the map SD card on the face of the unit, that holds the maps for GPS, i think you can put music on there too, maybe need to get a bigger micro sd card, and move the map data over and then create a music folder, may be an option, but i havent palyed with that yet.

As far as sound quality, i came from a 2014 mazda 6, with the bose system, and I give the nod to my mazda for sound quality. the HK system is good, but a little muddy for me in the highs and mids. Lows are really good, and probably better than my mazda was.

The bass is pretty impressive, all in all I think it sounds pretty good, certainly not like a tinny aftermarket or cheap stock speakers.

My USB ports are in my armrest, and although that is a VERY good point, it would still mean transferring hundreds of songs to my computer, then saving them to the USB, but first I would have to get a portable disc drive since the new computers don't have them...ugh. I know I know, #firstworldproblems

I will just have to miss my Audis MP3 player with fond memories of Hall and Oats and Michael Jackson playing while I drive I-5 to San Diego...booooo

Speaking of Harmon Kardon, and perhaps a little off topic - but has anyone been able to find the '9' speakers? I count 7. Two in the dash, 2 in front doors, 2 in back doors, and sub in the rear window.

I noticed the same thing, assumed the tweeters were integrated into the dash speakers... Even the website isn't clear http://http://m.harmankardon.com/con...tID=subaru-wrx

"Taking into account the individual space requirements inside both models, Harman Kardon specialists have devised a powerful system with nine speakers. Two 80mm mid-rangewoofers (in the front dashboard), two 160 mm midwoofers (in the front doors),two 100mm midrange speakers, combined with a 25mm tweeter each and a massive 200mm DVC subwoofer in the rear, provide powerful bass, crystal-clear highs and a mighty mid-range sound to make listening to the Harman Kardon soundsystem in the Subaru WRX and WRX STI an experience just like being there."

Not to burst anyone's bubble ... I mean well

I bought a HK stereo receiver (home, not car audio) from Crutchfield a few months back. Was way over priced and poorly built. I've seen receivers evolve since the late 70's. The HK was an absolute turd. I sent it back to Crutchfield. Gave me full credit and even paid for the return shipping.

Yeah, I agree. It's mediocre at best in the wife's XT. I had a good listen on a test drive in the WRX. It was meh. The Bose in my G coupe shames it easily. That said...it's still MUCH better than stock Subaru.

Speaking of HK...I was looking through the user manual and it appears that there is an equalizer setting on the unit...however, I can NOT seem to locate it anywhere on the screen. The only thing I can get is balance, treble, bass etc. Absolutely no EQ settings to be found. Help...I feel like a dummy!!!

User manual shows the 6.2 screen. I was looking for it too when I got the car, then I realized when I posted on iwsti that this is what all the Starlink 7.0 units get. No equalizer and no volume-speed control.

That would seem logical, however this manual is specifically for the 7" Starlink unit...Click image for larger version.

Yeah, I don't know why 7.0 units on the WRX and STI are any different from other models' 7.0, maybe it's just a software update? And maybe we can ask SOA about it if we call them. 😁

Apparently this is a known issue...found some info on another forum about this very issue. Even with the updated and newer users manual, there is no mention of a type a or type b system in the new manual...

Yeah, I did ask this on my car's thread and on iwsti too. Anyway, the equalizer, it seems like I can live without it. So does the speed-volume control, I don't feel the need to adjust the volume when my speed increases, it's that good enough of a sound system for my ears.
