As long as they are machined well and are perfectly flat I don't see why not. I installed some home-made ones from a C&C mill with no problems at all. The TVG deletes on the FA are MUCH simpler than those on the FJ motors.
But like I said, as long as they are flat and have a smooth surface so the o-rings on either side can seal, I don't see a problem with it.
I would save the hundy as well since Torque Solutions appear to be a credible/ reputable seller of mod parts and they sell for 95 on their website and 90 on fleabay. Good score I think I will be saving that seller as it s something in time I plan to buy as well.
The remove the stock TGVs (Tumbler Generator Valve). It's a VERY restrictive and almost useless emission control device located in between the intake manifold and the intake ports. They are open 99% of the time but are only closed during a cold start. Even when open, the bolt alone which has the flaps mounted to it takes up to about 30% of the intake port area. Removing the TGVs yields pretty decent torque gains as it allows more air into the engine. Of course a tune is required.
I ended up removing mine and the low end torque gains alone is definitely noticeable under WOT. I highly recommend this mod.
The reason being Ebay mods tend to make things explode lol. TGV Deletes are pretty involved, be prepared with a few hours, a few beers, and another set of hands!
I've heard great things on the TGV delete. I'll make a video and keep you guys updated on the tube! Stay tuned! I hope to have installed within a week or two.
Any foreseen issues passing emissions? I am going to get a pro tune at COBB Surgeline in the near future, and definitely am considering this mod. I will speak with my tuner obviously, just wondering if you spoke with yours regarding this?
None whatsoever. Like I said, the only time the TVGs are engaged is during a cold start. Literally seconds after the cold start they are wide open and pretty much doing nothing aside restricting airflow. I guess you could look at it as a very effective intake mod.
EDIT: The only negative effect is an error code. The tuner will need to remove these codes manually.
Really? I could not tell any difference whatsoever removing the TGVs. Cold starts are smooth just as they were with them installed. No problems with idle as well.
All very good info here. I promise I'll make a vid once I get them. I have Bren hired so I am going to let them know about my TGVs as soon as I get them installed. I plan on doing a Mishimoto CAI as well within the next 3-4 weeks.
i posted this other places but might as well post it here to see if anyone has had this happen before?
so i did my rev1 log with TGV deletes on Thursday night. That is my fast run below. I KNEW my car felt way slower today Saturday, all day. So I logged my rev 1 TGV deletes again... and look how my power has changed. Same exact road, MAYBE 5 degrees warmer tonight, nothing much different. Same tank of gas, everything.
I lost almost 20 tq in 2 days.. I've heard of ECU's adjusting a tiny bit after you first install a mod but this is rediculous. My car was faster without these TGV-deletes as it stands right now. Before this mod my car had 290wtq on the same graph all day long for weeks on end.
You have to keep in mind that you're running a virtual dyno and not actual rollers. If you did 3 back to back runs and they were all 20hp down then it may be worth worrying about, but with virtual dyno on my old Accessport, I'd see anywhere from 280-400hp, lol
I would bring it to a tuner shop and get a custom tune.
Then you can see on an actual Dyno machine, where things are at.
I agree with Chad those virtual Dynos are all over the place, numbers wise.
The power is not just going to disappear. There must be some other underlying issue. I would ask your tuner to look over your logs to see if the car is pulling timing possibly. You do have a tune specifically for the TGV Deletes correct? Also which TGV deletes are you using.
And like the others said virtual dyno is not accurate.
I'd definitely get with the tuner. I will say, though, usually after 1 good drive with a mod, you're pretty "used" to the way it feels. If you say it doesn't pull as hard, it's your car, and you probably know, but are you sure that you just didn't get used to the way it felt?
To give you an example of how bad the Virtual Dyno can be, I, too, did 3 "dyno runs" in my car on the same day, same stretch of road, ambient air rose 1* between the runs. The first pull it said my car made 330. The second pull it said my car made 347 and the final pull it said my car made somewhere in the 370's.
I would advise you, if at all possible, to get a protune over your E-Tune. It will address all of your car's individual needs, and I have a feeling that you'll get any lost power back immediately.
If something is truly wrong with the car, I'm guessing a tuner will be able to tell you what.
Are there any downsides to this mod that I should be aware of, other than the obvious warranty issues?
- I don't live in an area that does emissions testing although that could change at any time
- I do live in an area that gets cold in the winter. Last winter we had a few days of 0*F temps in the mountains for example, and I don't plan to miss snowboarding just because its cold out! My 2016 WRX is my only car.
The downside is that you are deleting an emissions feature, therefore aiding global warming. Your snowboarding days are numbered my friend. JK, other than the potential denial of a warranty claim, I see no downside.
It only improves emissions during cold idle. The impact towards the environment is VERY minimal to non-existent since the TGVs are wide open within seconds after start. In any other country, TGV's aren't even used.
Possible downsides: possible rougher idle, and longer start times during sub-zero temps. (neither of which I've noticed since removing mine). Also, you will get CEL's which will need to be deleted by the tuner.
