    Welcome!
The funny smell will go away soon. Plastic coatings i hate them.
Also I would change oil at 1,000 miles.
Then engine and tranny are breaking in the oil will have metal shards in it.
    After that follow maintenance schedule.
    Any mod plans?

Thanks. No major mod plans. This car actually replaced my 2002 CRV as family car on weekends. The last exciting car I owned was a 91 Integra 13 years ago so this is a major upgrade for me. There is 40 mins commute time each day I am enjoying it alone (too bad pretty much all Highway and traffic). I am in NY/NJ area I am actually driving slower then with my CRV due to the much stiffer ride and bad road. This car is fast enough for me. Looking forward to hit some twisty road.

The dealer actually put a service sticker on it to have first oil change 3750 miles. Do they put special oil in engine for break in that shouldn't be replaced too soon? That's what they said on my Odysessy. Looking at the manual it gave me an impression I do not need to change the transmission oil on the CVT. Just check for leaks (I know that sound strange).

I do the 1,000 mile oil change on any new car I buy.
Some people will agree some do not. Personally I'd spend the $40 bucks, on a car you just dropped $30,000 on.

The tranny fluid, I change at 10,000 the first time then every 30,000 there after.
Doing all the maintenance is key with a WRX. they can go 150,000 no problem.
There are also all kinds of warranty friendly mods. Like badges rainguards and mudflaps, rims.
It goes on and on. You picked a good site to join the people here are helpful and friendly.
