Well there is quite a range there! 2 body styles and 2 turbos. As you know the 2008 is the "black sheep" of the WRX family, though they can be had for cheap and built up like any other WRX. The 2009 received chassis/suspension tweaks and the IHI turbo. Then in 2011 the car again received chassis tweaks and the widebody design. My recommendation is really contingent on your overall goals with the car.

I don't know anything about WRX's other than they have boxer engines, awd, and turbo. What do you mean "Black Sheep"? what year is the better choice?

Just look up reviews of the 2008 WRX.

The better question is "what are your plans with the car"

The 2008 was the "black sheep" because they still used the td04 turbo, very soft non-responsive suspension, and bland interior. In 2009 they put the IHI vf52 turbo charger on the wrx which bumped the power to 265hp stock. About 40 more hp than the 2008 and older wrx's. The 08-10 wrx were called the narrow body bc they had the basic impreza fenders. In 2011 the wrx's adopted the same wide body as the sti and improved the chasis and suspension more so than the 09 and 10.

oh okay thanks for the info on that. is there any Major problems that occur with this cars? (example with evos and ralliarts the AYC pump failed in the winter because the OEM fluid freezes at a low temp)

In 2009 when subaru first put vf52 on the wrx's there were alot of engine failures. It was a known issue and has been well documented. I dont remember which ones were potentially in danger, but I think it was read somewhat by the VIN number. Best bet would be stay away for the 08-09. shoot for a 2010-20??.

All the 2009s that would have failed, failed.

Exactly. 106k on mine and it's fine (knock on wood) was even in the same VIN range as the 08-10 that were affected

just kidding, I'm a first time subaru owner and WRX. I came from a 2.4 lancer GTS > modded tuned veloster turbo > WRX and so far even with no engine mods this car is awesome!!!!!!!!! I do love my car but I really like to wide body that the 11'+ have. Overall great cars
