My 2002 wrx just hit 180k miles i have always used Mobil 1 or Royal Purple 5w-30 full synthetic but i was wondering if i should used thicker oil because of the high miles, can anyone with experience help? Also i know im already due for Engine knocking and im saving up to replace the motor for one with 100k less miles how can i prevent the engine knocking from happening ??? Whatever oil choices you've made have worked so far. Stick with them. Keep the oil level correct.

There is no point that I am aware of, at which your engine is due to start knocking.

Follow the maintenance schedule and continue doing what you're doing.

If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry. Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms, 1929
