Want to get another 10 great years from my WRX

Hello, I'm new to the forum and want to explore how to do two things with my 2004 WRX: 1) get another 10 years out of it; and 2) boost the performance. I am recently a new dad so our next new car will be a Forrester for the family. I really want to get a new WRX STI but that's not going to happen for a while. So, I'm researching what I can do to my current WRX (165k miles in great shape) to make it last another 100k miles AND add 50-75 horsepower.

Any suggestions on where to start?
    Thanks,

    Welcome

Check out these threads...read through the up-pipe one...I would consider that almost maintenance.

"Stage 2" is about as far as you can go while maintaining reliability. Just keep up your maint. schedule and you should be fine.

With those miles some poly suspension bushings would probly be worth it. Maybe new silicone hoses. If struts are original then replace. Things like that. Good luck with her.

If your thinking of going to 300k+ miles you should probly expect to rebuild/replace the motor or tranny. Hope you don't but it's definitely a possibility.

    Compression / Leakdown tests

Both should be performed, as it will tell you how healthy the motor is.
