For brakes, **** all that caliper kit BS. You need a bottle of brake fluid, the little pack of brake lube they have at the counter, some more sockets, and a friend to help you bleed them (get a piece of clear tube e.g. aquarium tubing and a bottle). Clean up the hardware that is there with a brass brush. EBC red stuff are $80 for the front set. They are tremendous brakes for street use and won't give you any grief. Get new rotors too ($35 ea. for the standard ones at the local AP store e.g. "Wearever").

You will just have to take a front wheel off to see which of the two pad options for that year range you got:
    WRX brake pad differences

You should do the rear at the same time, and you might consider the "H6" upgrade which is just a bigger legacy rear rotor and the right bracket for the caliper.

THe link is to a live buy it now for a WRX intercooler. Probably could be found less at NASIOC but it has all the hoses and the y-pipe and most of the clamps.

An STI intercooler (reasonably nice ubgrade) and a new hose kit with the nice t-clamps could still be done well under the dealer quote. There is a thread that explains how to do it right but I'd just get the stock one in there as the car is a long way from needing this.

    Subaru Subaru WRX STI V7 2001 EJ20 Turbo Engine Package EJ20T 2001 Version 7

Code: Subaru WRX STI V7 2001 EJ20 Turbo Engine Package EJ20T
    Year: 2001 Version 7
    Car: Subaru WRX STI
    Price: $6,350

+ shipping to US from Japan you would be looking at around 7500-8000 for a new block/STI engine

Edit: looked further into it and it includes trannsmission and the rad hoses? seems almost to good???

NOT plug and play at all, that is why they are cheap. They have to take them out young there for env. regs.

Ah yes, I didn't check the link. $100 for a stock I/C with all the trimmings is entirely reasonable, and recommended in the OP's position.

The only thing on that list I'd have the dealer handle is the wheel bearing. Find another shop with a decent rep. and let them have at it.

I'd use almost all used parts too (not the bearing obviously, maybe not the tierod end or wheel stud either).

If you need to replace one of the hardware components on the brake caliper just buy the one you need for $5-10.
