Don't own a Subaru, convince me I should....

I currently own a 2012 GTi 6mt. I am going to be needing AWD/4WD by next winter so I am looking into either a WRX or and STi. My biggest questions are not about how Subaru is better/worse than other brands but rather what makes the WRX/Sti a better deal than the other one. Which will hold up better to mods,? Is the STi really worth the extra cash? 5 Speed VS. 6 Speeed. All that jazz. If someone could help me out or point me to a thread that has this info (even though some of it is opinion), that would be great. I dont mind paying the extra $$ for a STi if it really is worth it. Just not sure it really is at this point.. Thanks all, Cheers!

Let me ask you a question (well a few):

    1) Is the AWD the reason you're switching because AWD is better in the winter months?
    2) Have you fitted winter tires to your car? If not, why not?
    3) Are you unhappy with the GTI and is that the reason you're switching?

    Invalid poll. No bewbs.

Also, this topic has been beaten to death time and time again and most of us are sick of it. Please search around, evaluate other threads, then come back with specific questions.

    1) Yes
    2) Yes, even blizzaks wont get me up this grade right now. My guess is about 10-20% grade for 3 miles with (2) 90 degree bends..... no joke..
    3) Absolutely love my GTi. If it got me home in the snow, I would have no issues. The 7th gen Golf R doesn't come stateside until spring of '15. Can't wait that long.

Ok now that I have my answers, I find it hard to believe that a FWD car with winters cannot get you up a grade that AWD would solve. However, the AWD will probably help and I have to agree with Zax on this one. 2015, WRX. /story. It will be the best sports car Subaru produces once it is in the market. Throw winters on that, and you should be good.

I came from a 2010 gti to a 2011 WRX a little more than a year ago and love the WRX. The AWD has been excellent this winter and I enjoy the mechanical feeling of this car. I felt like the GTI was a bit too numb and too easy to drive. I like that it takes a bit of practice and perfection to drive my WRX smoothly while shifting and how much heavier the clutch feels vs the GTI where I never even got the slightest indication where the engagement point was. If you're going with a new one I would definitely recommend going with the WRX and saving some money. The interior on the new models look to be a huge step up compared to the current gen. I would rather get the new engine in the WRX over they carry over in the STI. I don't ever track so I don't really need the bigger brakes or other things you get with STI
