What to pay for my 2008 Subaru WRX?

    Hi guys,
I am new to the forum, so go easy on me haha. But, I am most definitely getting this 08 WRX from an acquaintance of mine. It is the sedan, basically completely stock other than being lowered, but has 124,000 miles on it. Another concern of mine is that he had it stage 2, but to sell it he returned it to stock. He did this in the cold of the New Jersey winter, and is saying it is not running entirely right. So, this is a concern to me, but does not deter me from buying the car. He wants $10,000 with a set of winter wheels, and a front lip, but is that a little high for what I am getting? I will post pics if anyone wants.

price seems pretty good. the ones i see generally go for 15-18k, although thats pretty high mileage. however, my 02 wrx (stg 2) had 170k on it when i sold it. ask if he will take it to a subie master tech (dealership) and pay for the $80-$90 full diagnostic. that will give you your piece of mind. 'not runnin well' could be as simple as a dirty MAF or as costly as compression loss.

check and double check those struts. depending on how low it was, and how long its been that way, the struts (if original) are likely hurting. also ask if he got it aligned after he lowered it. if you want more power, look for 09+, as they have the VF52 turbo and more STi suspension components stock.

    GL!

Why would you spend 10k on a car when the owner is telling you that it's not running right. I would stay away from it man. Especially since you know it was modded already too.

I spoke to him, and it is not compression issues or anything of the sort. And he said it straightened itself out, which leads me to be concerned. But I am taking it for a test drive, just feel it out. And during that I am bringing it to my mechanic who specializes in Subaru to look it over. Thanks guys. I will let you know how everything goes!

Idk man id stay clear of it if I were you. There is a reason why he's selling it so cheap.

The price is low due to mileage and that its an 08. They redesigned the wrx in 08, then changed it again (for the better!) in 09. there have only been (mostly) cosmetic changes since. even an 08 wrx with low mileage will be priced well below an 09, much more so than the difference between the 10 and 11 and so on. but yeah, to err on the side of caution is better than being stuck with a lemon.

I am test driving it and bringing it over to a subie specialist. And I am having one of my friends who staged his car look at it too and make sure it is all good before I actually make an offer.

Huh. Price does seem low. But like reading a good book, I'm curious to see how this turns out. Let us know how it goes!

Don't waste your money. My buddy bought an 08 that was returned back to stock and he has already had to rebuild the motor and trans. And then the motor took a **** again lol.

I'd save some more money and find a clean 09+. Sounds like money pit
