    Looking for grad. gift

Hello, Clubwrx. I'm a senior in high school and my parents told me they're going to buy me a newer (05 or later) car for graduation (coming from a '97 Accord CD5 (96 Prelude Si before that; lost but not forgotten... lul)) Anyways, two cars immediately came to mind: First generation Mazdaspeed 3 and second generation Impreza.

After a fair amount of research and just generally thinking about what's important to me in a car, I believe that a second generation WRX wagon is the ideal car for me at this time. Right amount of aftermarket support, decent gas mileage (on par with the Accord) and plenty of room and power for all of my needs. Ideally I'm looking for an '05 (love the blobeyes) with low mileage (less than 130k) for around $10k with minimal to zero modifications.

Any feedback or advice is welcomed, and I'm looking forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome. Not a bad thing to want. You are spot on with wanting something with as little mods as possible. The idea here for you is to find a WRX with as low of miles as possible, as stock as possible, for as cheap as possible.

Don't be in a rush...most people run out and buy the first thing they see only for it to bite them in the ass later because they don't know what to look for in terms of mods and problems. Patience is a virtue.

Hardest part has been not jumping on one. I'm ready to move on from the accord, but I'm hoping to find a great deal on a clean car.

Agreed, it would be really useful where I live. Lots of dirt roads that concern me driving front wheel drive.

Also, does anyone know if a wagon can support a small pull-behind camper?

edit* when I say dirt, I mean when it turns to mud after it rains.

Though people have towed very small trailers or something, it's generally not suggested because of the AWD system. Something like a small camper, I probably wouldn't.

Because FI cars are less reliable and more expensive to maintain. For a college kid, that's not a good combination. I'd go with the RS.

So, I found this. It's a bit of a step away from a WRX wagon, but it's clean. Considering looking at it, just wanted to get an opinion from subi owners.

There's also this, but I would really prefer to get a five speed. Are the automatic WRXs particularly bad or are they about thebsame?

About the same as most auto trans from that era. Sludgy, sloppy, never doing what you want it to do. that's just my opinion on most autos anyway... I just much rather prefer manual.

People who have auto WRXs love them. I personally would never want one.

We bought our 03 wrx auto in July 03. Zero tranny issues and it's very very difficult to beat it from a dig with the 3k stall.
