Question New member with a new 2014 WRX with problems

I have a brand new 2014 WRX with only about 500 miles on it and I have a problem that could be dangerous. The car will rev by it self as if you put your foot to the floor on the gas peddle, it does this while I am sitting at a stop when it is in gear idling with the clutch disengaged and my foot on the brakes. I shut the engine off and on restart it revs right up again. I does this for 4 0r 5 restarts then goes back to idle and runs perfectly normal. This has happened 5 times, 3 times in the first weekend I had the car. I have taken the car back to the dealer and the diagnostics are normal and no defects are shown. The dealer says they have never seen this problem before. They have had my car for over two weeks now and drive it occasionally with no problem showing up. The last I heard from them is they called Subaru about the problem. Has anyone ever heard of this problem happening.

Sounds like a programming issue. Have they tried a re flash at all?

Gonna ask the obvious: Are you sure your brake foot isn't snagging the gas pedal? The pedals are pretty close together and if you happen to have larger feet, I can see you snagging it.

Start looking at Lemon Laws. Most states will allow the dealer 3 attempts to fix a serious problem such as this, or if your car is at the dealer so many days within the first year. I am sure you are incredibly frustrated.

It sounds like your car might possibly be possessed by the devil. I would bring it to a church and get a priest to fill the tank with holy water and flash a JC map on there ASAP.

Honestly though, I would let the dealer figure this one out. I might take the car back and drive it until I had the problem present itself again (if the dealer is not noticing anything after two weeks). If it comes back again, bring the car back and have them take a look again. Good thing is that that car is so new that if anything went seriously wrong then it would all be covered under warranty.

You will need to record this, if you are at a stop light and can record this behavior I say your golden for a lemon case!

Do not use your phone whole driving, obey all federal, state and local laws. This idea is a suggestion not instructions and will by no means constitute any form of anything. And all that other legal garbage about phones and cars!

Best of luck! Let us know what you find!

I don't think that is the problem I am 5'7" with a size 8 shoe but I think it is haunted or possibly possessed.

Is it happening when your engine is still cold?

I had this happen, and it WAS my foot on both gas and brake. It's real easy to do... And I figured it out while sitting at the stop light....
You can't have everything - where would you put it?

    as you post from car

But seriously, how high on the RPMs would it climb? also how fast, is it like a really fast jolt climb or is it a slow and steady climb up the RPMs?

Yup, I just bought a 2014 WRX a couple weeks ago and the same thing happened to me when I drove it to work for the first time. I have big feet, and wasn't used to the pedal layout.

The RPM's rise steadily as far as you let it go. The engine is warm and been driven for a while.
