    New guy with Bugeye :)

Just wanted to say thanks for all the good info on this forum! I bought a 03 wrx wagon about two weeks ago. Have always wanted one but never had the chance until now. My friends father in-law had it and I was always checking it out. Finally I got it!! He bought it from the original owner at 45000 miles with all the paperwork and receipts. Drove it to work on hwy every day enough to put 200,000 miles on it! Its still in great shape, tight steering, engine is smooth, shifts smooth ... So far I have replaced the windshield wiper transmission, timing belt, tensioner, pullys, dash lights, oil, oil filter, air filter. It is completely stock. So here in Ohio its been pretty cold and what do you know, I start smelling gas Get on Clubwrx and there is the answer I have the original window sticker, sales invoice, oil change ... so I keep looking through all the paperwork and there is the letter that Subaru sent about the gas smell recall from 2010. So I head to local dealer with letter in hand. Gave it to the service lady and she typed a few things in her computer. Says there are two more inspections to be done too. Rear lift gate stay and lower control arm. So no charge for anything I ask and she says nope when can you drop it off I still have a leaking passenger side valve gasket, blown out cv boot, and need to do brakes bad but very, very happy with it.

    Pete

Couple of pics from when I picked it up. was sitting for two months. I got the original wheels too.

That's a clean looking bugeye! Love that it's a wagon and honestly partial to that color!

    Thanks guys,
I've been overloading my brain on all things Subaru lately Never been around one close enough to know much until now! Plans are to get it mechanically sound (valve cover gasket, brakes, new hoses ...) first. Then the fun begins. Being that it is a 03 my research says get rid of the cated up pipe quick. Then turbo back and a tune for now. I am also building a 91 Toyota pickup now too so $$$ is split between the two. Actually im laid off for the winter (concrete finisher) so waiting till spring to start upgradeing. I paid $3000 for the car, I think that's not bad for the miles. Still strong and smooth.

Any suggestions on what I should look for maintenance wise is appreciated.

Toyota is a 91 with 4cyl(22re). It had independent front suspension Im almost done with the solid axle swap, has dual Tcases. I sold my 85 Toy that was almost done to get the efi and xcab of the 91.

Toyota is suffering cuz bugeye is getting all the love right now.
My bugeye went to the dealer yesterday for its gas smell fix. Miss driving it already

    Couple pics of my Toyotas

The gas smell is very common on bugeyes in extremely cold weather. The smell is due to the expansion of the hard fuel lines with respect to the rubber fuel lines. Subaru circulated a TSB regarding the smell but did not issue a true recall. I'd say not to worry about it, but it seems you are already getting it fixed.
