I picked-up my new 2013 hatchback Satin White Pearl WRX Limited on Friday after work. It was my first time seeing it since it came from a different dealer through a dealer trade.
Coming from a 2012 hatchback Satin White Pearl Impreza 2.0 Limited, my first thoughts are positive. First, the paint color is the same as on the Impreza – that is a plus. I love the classy look of SWP. Second, while some describe the interior of the WRX as cheap, I find it more visually appealing than the Impreza’s and certainly not worse than my last Honda Civic. Sure, the plastics are hard, but who among us finds enjoyment in fondling the dashboard? The instruments, with their red electroluminescent dials, are much more dynamic and interesting to look at than on the Impreza. I could go on about the differences but in all honesty, I didn’t buy the WRX for its interior.
My first impressions after the driving the WRX are over the top positive. I am still breaking in the engine and I am keeping the revs at 4,000 RPM or under but boy! This little bugger has so much more power than my Impreza. There is no comparison whatsoever. Even while in break-in, I am having way more fun in the WRX than I ever did in my Impreza. On Sunday, while driving at about 50 MPH, I was able to pass two cars on a secondary 2-lane highway without downshifting from 5th. I just pressed the gas pedal and I felt pushed back in my seat. There is no way I could’ve done this in any of my previous cars. There is no way I would have tried either.
Anyway, I hope to report back on my new WRX as I get more familiar with it but so far, I am extremely pleased and impressed by the performance and potential of this car.
