    TIRES

I am getting ready to purchase winter tires for my 2011 WRX (just purchased w/ 22K miles). It has the stock 235/45R17. I'd like to go with something slightly wider, but not too crazy.

Does anyone know what the maximum width would be on the stock 17" rims so I do not create any rubbing issues, etc??

    Thanks, any suggestions much appreciated!!!

You don't want wide tires for the winter. Your wheels are 8 inches wide, so you shouldn't really go wider than 245 on those, but for winter I would stick with 235's at the widest.

You want narrower width for winter tires (it helps "cut through" the snow). A popular size is 215/55/16, as it will basically keep the same speedo reading, and will almost surely be cheaper. Since you don't have Brembos, you don't have a clearance issue like STIs have; people often times pick up '02-'05 WRX OE wheels (or steelies) on the cheap to mount snows to. The cost of buying new wheels will more than cover itself vs mounting/balancing tires twice per year.
