    New to WRX

I just drove and purchased a 2011 WRX 2 days ago...could not believe it, had no idea how amazing these cars are. Have been M3 fanatic for years, but am quickly rethinking that.

I am a new member, so bear with me...I know nothing about WRX's and need to learn. The one I purchased, 2011 with 22K miles appears in great shape.

Question is: under the hood is a blue COBB intake (left side when looking under hood). Is this stock or a mod, and if a mod does it boost HP?

    Thanks, I appreciate it!

Mod. Don't really know if it added any power or not.

How does the car run with the intake? Cobb says their intakes need to be a followed by a tune. If the car is running strong and smooth through the rpm range it may also be tuned. The air/fuel on these cars are very picky. I'm sure someone else will chime in if I have told you wrong, I am new to these things as well!

    Congrats on the wrx!

First off, I would have bought an M3. Secondly, your Cobb intake will boost power if you have it tuned. Did it come with an Access Port?

Hi, welcome and congrats on the car!

No, the Cobb intake isn't stock, and would require a tune. As spotsy said, if the car seems to be running good then it probably already is tuned. By chance did it happen to come with an accessport or anything? Mind posting pics of the engine bay to see if we can spy anything else that isn't stock on it?

    Welcome to the forum.

Like the others said you need to be tuned for the Intake.

As it was used, it might be tuned already even if it didn't come with the intake. Ya might wanna check and see if there's anything else aftermarket in your car. If it says something besides Subaru, or spt, it's not stock

Thanks everyone for the input...very helpful...here are 3 pics of the engine. If anyone sees any mods aside from the COBB intake please let me know. Hopefully the pics took...if not will upload again. Thanks!!

One more (actually 3 more) Q's: 1 - is the access port tuning device difficult to install, 2 - can Subaru dealer service depts. typically deal with common mods? 3 - is idle at 800-1000 at normal temp in the proper range for 2011 WRX? Sorry for all of the Q's!! Just want to ramp up on this car.

    1. No it's not. It's pretty self explanatory. There's step by step instructions. And you can always call Cobb, they're pretty helpful.
2.subaru techs aren't going to like you having mods. In fact, if anything goes wrong with your car, they're gonna try their hardest to blame it on the mod whether its relevant or not. And I wouldn't have them do any work for you, deal or labor rates are pretty high.
    3. Yes that idle is fine

    No

Subaru has every right to deny warranty claims when modifications are performed outside of OEM parts.

Yes. Depends on AC compressor duty cycle.
