Long time admirer, switched from the BRZ

After always loving Subies, escpecially the WRX/STI, I got caught up in the BRZ wave and purchased one as soon as they were available for order. I loved the BRZ and had fun with it for over a year. Then the lack of practicality caught up with me and so I traded it in for a 2013 SWP WRX Limited hatch. Got to say the WRX is as good as I can remember and makes so much more sense. Between the two the WRX is far easier to drive on a daily basis, and just gives up a little when the road gets really twisty. But, it more than makes up for it in the power and punch area. Both are awesome cars in my opinion, but the WRX just makes life so much easier day to day.

I have no desire for a convertible.

If you don't want a convertible you must not have driven with the top down on a perfect spring morning, or a warm summer night, or on a windy twisty road during the fall. My previous ride was a Z4, and on a nice day there is nothing finer. I miss it a lot, except like right now when it's 100 flippin' degrees in late August and during winter when a car like that is useless.

Seriously, a convertible BRZ would please a lot of people who want something fun and sporty less than $30k besides a Miata.

I have a BRZ limited very similar to the pics, and frankly, it's in a whole different class than the Impreza when it comes to handling. I still have my wrx though, so I'm in a good spot at the moment, car-wise.

I think the main thing against a convertible BRZ is weight. Convertible = more weight, more weight = less fun

I really wanted to like the BRZ more than I did; I was debating for a while between one and the Rex, but went Rex for the reasons the OP stated. Yes, the BRZ has a helluva chassis, and is quite the looker, but practicality wise it's not the best for me, and the HUGE gap in the torque curve just bothered me. I don't want to drive around town at 5k rpm just to have some fun. But as a seconde car, hell yeah. I'm not baller enough for two 2013 car payments
