Having never really driven performance cars, I am extremely pleased with the WRX (haven't even finished breaking her in! today or tomorrow, though) and, while I would love an STI as well, could not afford or justify the price difference for my uses. For me the WRX is perfect. While I do feel some engine mods and upgraded suspension are necessary, it's still an amazing car, especially for the price.

I went with the WRX because it was cheaper, more available with the options I liked, and a smoother ride for a daily driver than the STI. I had a hard time finding WRX's to test drive, much less an STI in the local area.

I agree with the above--if performance is your goal, an STI would be the obvious choice. But for a versatile, comfortable daily vehicle that is still blazing fast and handles well the WRX should fit the bill.

Wish I could. Im in KY and there is nothing close! NOTHING. I have called all dealerships within 120 miles. I would have to drive 2.5 hrs just to see a WRX. Thats why I was hoping for good advice on how close the WRX is to the STI.

When I was ready to buy last month there were no new WRX's or STI's within 120 miles of Omaha. There were 2 WRX's coming into town within the next month that had already been sold. On the other hand, there was a 2012 DGM WRX Premium with low mileage at Carmax, and as they say a bird in the hand...

I really appreciate this car as a daily driver. Much as I enjoyed my previous BMW Z4, as a regular driver it was a PITA. The suspension was just too rigid. The WRX actually seems to ENJOY bumps and potholes.

That is a bummer man I would say if your gonna do it, do it. I drove both WRX was great, but I want to track my car so went the STI route. Wow 2.5 hrs is long way for a test drive Super Dave, you my friend are in a pickle. My two cents if you want it go get it. FYI my wife has 2011 Impreza hatch and its pretty fun to drive if you have to have a Subaru. A car is very personal choice and you don't know you like it till you drive it. But dude 5 hrs round trip for a test drive crazy

I own a 2013 WRX and wish I would have purchased the 2013 STi. I just never owned a Subaru before and didn't want to go "all in" in case I didn't like it. I will sell my WRX before this winter or next winter and pick up a new STi.

Good news. The most local dealer (1hr away) just received a new limited model. I will test drive on Friday! Hopefully I have the same feel as I did with the STI.

They are asking 33k. Seems a bit high for a limited model. I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks again for all the info and thoughts.

    Super Dave,
Keep us posted on your test drive. Good luck. I have a feeling you will love the WRX Limited just as much as the STI.
I made my decision based on cost and practicality. I just didn't see the point in spending the large increase for what I consider a little extra HP, slightly better suspension, and such. I am a daily driver, so the STI was just not practical, though I like the STI. I have no negatives about either car. People may "gig" the WRX or STI for blah blah blah, but no one thing in life suits everyone.
From your description, it would appear the WRX would be practical for you.
Regardless, keep us posted and good luck!

    Brandi

Oh, and hate to rub this in, but I purchased my '13 WRX Limited (with 6 miles on it) for $26,000 & some change at 1.99%.

I say get the WRX and pocket the 200 per month savings from the car payment and the 50 or more per month from insurance savings... Unless you really want to modify the living hell out of it then it makes sense to get the STi hence why it is a lot better platform outa the box!

Great info. Cant wait to drive the wrx....only 2 more days! I will post my thoughts once I do. I was hoping I could swing a limited for about 26,500 or so. This gives me hope!
