    New Owner

Morning All! I have been trolling around for a week or so and i wanted to take the time to say hi. I had an 05 fall in my lap earlier this month and so far I am enjoying it. I come from a BMW background so this is my first FI car. Not sure how many ppl owned the car before me but it was salvage and is in pretty good shape. Last weekend I changed all the fluids, belts, water pump, spark plugs, fuel filter and while i was doing the timing belt I found that I had an oil leak starting in the camshaft seals on the driver side. So I changed the 4 of them out. Only think I can complain about is no AC and starting uphill seems off. Whenever I try to get moving when on a hill the car has no power at all until I get to around 2500rpms. Not sure if thatís normal or not but Iím looking into it. Anyhow Hello, everyone.

Welcome! The "no power uphill til 2500rpms" might just be you having your first lovely experience with the awesomeness that is a turbocharged car! You said you're looking into whether it is ok, what are you doing?

Ooh,hang on. That is the throb of a turbocharged flat four engine. A sound which, all over the world, heralds the imminent arrival of a moron - JC.

Well I checked for codes and nothing. After some searching i didn't fond an answer and so I had the stealership take a look they said it looked sounded and ran normal. So I don't know.

Anyone from Seattle? Does a start from dead stop on those hills make you car feel like its gonna stall?

I think you're just dealing with your first experience of a turbocharged car with a heavy awd drivetrain. You'll get used to it. If I were on a steepish hill I probably would get it to 2500 or so to accelerate.

Here’s the car. Just turned 100k I watched it happen!!

Also, been digging around I have been doing some more digging around. I found that I have been shifting too soon. I think I’m getting the hang of driving this car because I’m starting to grin like an idiot when I take it out... totally different from a NA car.

2500rpm is when the td04 spools up, so that's where the power band will begin to plateau.

Also, ride the clutch a little longer starting on a hill. If you let it out too much too fast it will definitely bog the engine down unless it's revved up.

The clutch in these cars takes a lot more caressing lol, I guess it's the awd?..makes it more "grabby." I came from a chevy 1/2 ton pickup and an RSX, both of which you could let the clutch out however you wanted and they were fine with it. Also, their powerbands were linear being NA motors. The turbocharged kicks you in the pants when the turbo spools up, it will drive much different.
