Are you sure? P0420 is pretty often indicative of an aftermarket downpipe, especially if there is no O2 sensor voltage CEL to go along with it...

Post a few pictures of the downpipe to be absolutely sure.

Anyway, if it is an O2 sensor issue, it would be the rear O2 sensor, which can be disabled via Engine Management. It could also be indicative of a catalyst failure or a small exhaust leak. The older ECUs only use the rear O2 sensor for monitoring the catalyst, while the newer CANbus evidently use both for CL fueling.

All 32-bit ECUs use the rear O2 for fueling.

    Could be a good thing

Perhaps there are some aftermarket goodies that needed to be learned? Ya never know with purchasing someone else's project/etc.

Best of luck! Enjoy it! And if Cobb Tuning is still selling their flash loader called the "access port" I'd suggest that as your first purchase!! It's a trick device that (when I had my WRX) not only boosted power but allowed code reading and suppression.

    I LOVED it!

    Cheers

    Michael
