    Good morning y'all,

I just want to say, I love my car. I am totally obsessed. It's the last thing on my mind and the first when I wake up. I even say good morning to it. I've spent every night since April 11th reading this forum, learning how the Shoop works & (window-)shopping for parts.

    - The Shoopster's next fixes will be timing belt, water pump replacement (217k km / 135k miles) ($$ ouch)
    - internal wastegate actuator replacement (damn this itty bitty thing is expensive)
    - I been shopping around for (and reading up on) turbo heat shield (narrowed down to Cobb, Grimmspeed or OEM/used - which is fugly but effective - opinions welcome) and blanket (probably Perrin, because I think an OEM would fit easily over it, correct me if I'm wrong) but if anyone can suggest a good and less expensive one, that'd be nice). My heatshield is in bad, bad shape. Picture below. Don't laugh! Try not to cry either. (I've only had the Shoopster a couple weeks, I'm on it!)
    - a magnetic oil drain plug because it's cheap insurance.

Those are the needs. As for the wants, a set of OEM rubber floormats, and a license plate delete.

Have a great day everyone, thanks for your help and generally your presence here, really appreciate all the info I'm finding.

Wish I would have known that...I've needed a heat shield forever

Shoopster...your stock one has definitely been cut/modded.

    RallySportDirect recommended this:
    QUOTE
The only one we have that may work is the following:
Turbosmart Internal Wastegate Actuator 14psi 150mm Rod TS-0681-5142 at RallySportDirect.com
Some custom modification may be necessary since this is a universal product.

Does anyone have experience installing this particular model on a 2004 stock WRX ?
If so, did it need to be modified in any way? complex/easy?
    Suggestions (alternatives) welcome, thanks again

    You snoozed! :-D
Yeah, definitely.. so I figure if the previous owner needed to cut it, for whatever reason, I'd probably have to do the same thing to it if I got another OEM, I don't think that's an ideal setup.
Thanks again for dropping the wisdom ;-)

Edit: I can send you my old one if you want, after... Better than a kick in the bum, but not by much, granted...

Anyway aren't you gonna get a new car? I thought you had a love/hate relationship with yours, wishing fire and disappearance upon it and whatnot

To be honest, can't say I've seen anyone ever replace that part. You'd probably be better off just replacing the turbo with another used TD04 running around somewhere.

    and it is GREATLY appreciated
between the actuator (or another turbo grumble grumble) and the timing-belt-and-water-pump job, I am tapioca city.

Edit: I can't afford a new turbo. Guess I'll let y'all know how the actuator works out then, eh?

MW, do you think a blanket would fit under the shield? or is it a snug snug fit?
(blanket goes under the shield, right? not over?)

Yeah the blanket goes on the hot side of the turbo, under the shield. It will fit just fine with the Cobb shield.
