Hi Everyone. 2nd time WRX owner here. Was the owner of a 2005 Black 5MT WRX that I owned from Dec 2004 - Sep 2008. From there I went 2008 6MT 350Z (totaled by a left turning cell phone blabber in Dec 2010. Since then I had been driving an automatic 2006 BMW 330xi. Great car, but at 89,000 miles, with my extended warranty expiration looming, and various problems being fixed (albeit for free) every week or so, the I just traded that in for a 2013 5MT Silver WRX Hatchback Limited.
So far I love it! I almost bought a black premium, but I had HIDs as a must have so I went w/ the Limited in Silver. I loved my 05 and this one puts it to shame (or so it feels). You can definitely feel the 37 more horses that it has on the 2005. Almost sprung for the STi...it was so tempting... but living in NJ, I felt the 2013 would be more than enough, and I suspect I was right.
Here's how it compares to the Bimmer:
WRX Seats are horrible. I am 6'6'' and I would routinely go NJ to Boston on business without any aches in teh 330. Don't think this will be the same in the WRX. The lack of a forward/aft tilt option is tough.
Bad radio/bluetooth/interface. Usable but not the best tech I've seen. Radio is obviously terrible, but who cares, I'd rather listen to the turbo whine
NO 6 speed in a $32k sports car? Longish throw. I feel the stick is in need of a shorter throw. My 05 felt shorter. Missing a gear.(give me a 6 speed!)
THE GOOD STUFF
Performance blows away the BMW, even though it was 255 Horse and X-Drive, the subaru stomps it, it's incomparable.
Braking is very good
I am in love w/ the body style. It's a love it or hate it and I think im in love. THey did such a nice job.
QUAD PIPES! THey are (lifelong goal achieved! a car w/ four pipes LOL)
HIDs are quite good.
Happy to be back in a sleeper. This is the most underrated car I have ever owned. Look forward to meeting some other owners and maybe meeting up.
Tinting, Autostart, and HIDs for the Fogs on Wednesday.
See you in the forums!
