Hi All,
I just bought a 2010 WRX 5-door with 86k on it. PO had long highway commutes, which is the reason for the high mileage.
Anyway, Im new to Subaru's, but definitely not to cars. I've been working on cars and trucks my whole life, but this car is a whole other beast in it's own. I was wondering on what sort of maintenance should I be looking forward to? I know about good old oile, filter etc. I'm wondering more about larger repairs.
Also, what are some good CA legal mods I can do?
Thanks Guys!

move out of CA, mod happily.
If you are talking 300 WHP then you probably won't get there without failing CA emissions. There are plenty of suspension/shifter/appearance mods you can make without failing emissions though.
300whp or 300 crank? Big difference there...
Look into Stage 2 first. Downpipe and an appropriate tune (open source, professional tune, or Cobb Accessport). However, you specified "legal" in CA. Technically any modification to stock exhaust equipment is federally illegal anywhere. But its certainly enforced more in CA and you're more liable to get a ticket for it. That's your risk though. You basically will not see 300hp without changing exhaust components...so the choice is yours.
You could probably get away fine with suspension mods.
Sounds like you need a plan before anything. Drive the car for awhile. What do you like or dislike about it? Where do you think you need to improve things? Handling? Braking? Power? etc...Once you figure that out, then you'll be able to come up with a mod path.

See I come with a strong pre-smog muscle car background so, this will be my first "tuner" car. I also don't mind bolting on stock parts just to pass smog, as long as it's not extreme.
I've only had the car a week and I can name one thing right away that I don't like, the long throws. What are some good brands of short throws that you guys would suggest?
Also, I'm not super into appearance, but I would like to get HID headlights.
