I went with the Cusco Shorty and it was a big improvement over the RC antenna.

I have it and love it. The reception is as good as the shorty as I had that one first.

I had the VG on my DD Mazda 6 for 5+ years. It held up great, and the color match was perfect.
The only issue I had with it was at the very end of the 5 years, it had about 10, very light (no one but me noticed) very tiny (1mm) bubbles around the 3M tape at the bottom of the attenna - never figured out why.
I went with the perrin shorty for the WRX.
