Gas Mileage, should I be concerned?

    Hey Guys,

I was getting little below 19MPG in November, I am now getting 16.5MPG. The only change I made were my stock tires to the General Continental Extremes.

Should I be concerned that there is a problem or can I equate this to Winter gas and tire change?

    Thanks!!

Just my two cents..i noticed a 2mpg change when i developed a boost leak..now that I've fixed or, it's returned to 22.8mpg. My leak was on the intercooler to throttle body side. Also this is a 2012 wrx.

Thanks, I think I will bring it to the dealer and see what they find.

I think it is probably just winter gas and warming up your car. If you are concerned thought get it checked out.

16 seems awfully low unless your dogging the crap out of it

I also think 16 is awful low. I drive spirited, but not crazy aggressive. In fact, I have more mindful of taking it easy since the bad MPG and hasn't really helped.

It's notorious for being "off". Do the proper method of calculating mileage based on trip meter vs fill-up amount.

I've noticed at least a 1mpg drop...figuring it was the winter blend of fuel...at least that's what I hope it is! I too have been going by the dash display. I figure even if it isn't accurate with the actual number that I could count on the difference at least being accurate...but maybe I shouldn't even count on that?

I also run general continental extreme on my WRX. I get close to 300mi out of a full 13 gallon tank. Best thing to do is try and ride under the boost rpm.

Highway, city, mix? That's pretty good, but I don't think I could get close to that unless I was severely reducing my fpg's (funs per gallon)

PS. Where'd you find that avatar? If my memory serves, one of our members created that last year sometime, I'm just curious where it has ended up in teh interwebs!

16mpg aint no body got time for that! like others said dash displays seem inaccurate, fill up, reset your trip meter and do the math next fill up and post how much off it was from your dash indicator. for science!

I've always seen 1-2mpg drops in winter, due to gas, higher density air, or whatever. My best mileage always comes in summer, when the car feels the weakest.
