Just bought my second WRX have a couple questions?

Bought a 2011 WRX sedan used its got 30,000 miles! I am f@*#ing pumped! This is my second WRX and third subie. I just have a couple questions. It says on the original dealer sticker that it has the sti short throw shifter, i am wondering if the height is adjustable because the knob seems to sit very high. Also how do i know if i have HID headlights? and last but not least does adding a tune void warranty?

Look at them and search for HID bulbs, ballasts, and/or an HID pattern or colour.

I would hope so but it will depend on whether you are caught and/or whether they think about it (a) existing to search for it and (b) being related to the failure for which you are requesting warranty coverage.

Most people will tell you nothing can "void" a warranty but those people aren't going to fix your car for you if/when your repairs are denied at a dealer.

Also, if they are the stock headlights, I believe that only the limited WRX came with the HID's. So if you have the Premium and they are stock then you would have the projector lows/multireflector halogen lights.

To answer your question about the short shifter, I do not believe it is adjustable. I too have it in my '12, and it certainly does sit high. When I picked it up from the dealer I was like "WTF I thought you said it had a short throw??" . After comparing it to a regular factory shifter, there is a noticeable difference in the 'throw' of it but it doesn't sit much lower at all.

Correct. The limited trim cars were also the only ones to come with leather seats. So, unless the previous owner(s) modified the headlights, if you've got leather seats then you have HIDs. Otherwise, they are the standard halogen projector lamps.

The length of the lever has nothing to do with it being a short shifter or not. The difference is in the geometry. And AFAIK only Cobb makes height adjustable short shifters. The OEM short shifter is not height adjustable.

The easy way to tell if the car came with HIDs from the factory is the leveling adjustment dial on the left side of the dashboard. Generally retrofits won't have the adjustment.

Good call. My dad's MS3 came with HIDs and it's got that level adjustment now that I think about it.

I changed my stock knob to the cobb knob and it's slightly shorter so it sits lower. But probably can adjust the stock one.

Adding a tune could void the engine warranty. I'm sure if someone blew their motor, SOA may check the ecu for reflashes. It's hit or miss whether or not they'll check the ecu and void warranty. I say if you do tune, then dont be surprised if they say no to a new engine if a ringland goes
