Help! 08 wrx premium sunroof shattered!

The sunroof on my wrx is completely shattered. I think it happened yesterday and my only guess to why is that water got all around the seem and then froze.

Has anybody else had this happen or heard of it happening?

What do you think the bill will be for repairs?

    Thanks for any advice!

    Chad

Are you sure nobody messed with it? Somebody was mad at you or an angry ex? It's not exactly a common thing to have happen even in the coldest of weather

There are no signs that anything hit it (baseball bat, rock, etc.) It's evenly distributed ...

That's how saftey glass shatters, if you whack it with something the cracks will spread and spread untill they're all evenly distributed like that.

The freeze is probably it. There usually is some "shape" to the cracks when it got hit. Even like that looks like it's caused by freezing water around the seal. Just my dumb thinking.

Good luck with the repair. This makes me happy I don't have a sunroof, even though my car is garaged.

You would still see the point of impact if it was hit with something. It's even - but there is definitely a point of impact that shows up.

You'd have to have a substantial amount of cracks, cold and internal heat to get something to outright break like that. I'd say it looks like there was some substantial weight on it. Couldnt be THAT expensive though considering window repair options and it's such a small pane.

This happened to a friend of mine while we were driving down the highway in his TriBeca. You're probably out of warranty being that its an 08 but a call to your local dealer might be worth a shot. He called Subaru of America, who referred him to a local shop (we were out if town) and they fixed it for no charge.

    Good luck!

Alright, it turns out the sun roof is after market and it's under recall (I bought my car used so this was news to me). So the good news is that repairs a free (ignoring 2 weeks not being able to drive it).

    Thanks for the replies.
