And how hard you drive it definitely matters. If you find yourself running it hard, stick with 3500 miles. The cost of the oil is cheap compared to the cost of an engine replacement.

One thing I'm confused about is, if I drive 1500 (regular driving) within the 3 month period, do I still change the oil?

Yes. It is the mileage or the months, whichever comes first.

My 2013 oil change was right at 1000 miles. I did make sure the 50-100 miles was very spirited to ensure good seating of all the engine internals. I keep it under 4K RPMS the rest of the way to 1000 miles. The car runs great, idles good, and no problems to report. Note, check the oil at the dip stick really doesn't should anything but age of the oil (color). You can not see what is down near the drain until you change the oil and if you do your first change you will be surprise how clean looking oil can have some much stuff in it.
