I got my '13 for 25,800 after taxes, tags, ect... 26,900.. I looked at some used WRX, but after having them put up on a lift to check out everything I decided to just go with new one and not have to worry about someone elses bad driving/car care habits..

So this is maybe not an easy question, but I'm noticing some odd pricing with WRX's. The new ones can be got for 25,500 to 26,900 for a base model, depending on the dealership, location, etc. I'm quoting these prices off what other members here have said, and on the TrueCar.com offers I'm getting from various dealers.

Now, I'm noticing that online, 2011 models with ~25k miles are asking for more than a new WRX! Apples-to-apples too. Not even the premium trim line. Is that right? It doesn't make sense that the market would support those kind of prices.

the new base 2013 i ordered with homelink mirror, sti short shifter, arm rest extension, and a some small stuff. like all weather floor mats etc. i got for $25,200. before local taxes, financining ect...
so a new one is not out of the question

edit: yes thats why everyone is telling you to just get a new one. the resale value is out of control on these cars. used they are barely if at all cheaper than new. i see a lot of used wrx's marked higher than new. hell, the vegas subaru has a 2 year old sti sedan on their lot....for $36,798......crazy lol

A new one is definitely in consideration. Thanks for sharing your purchase experience.

I just don't understand the pricing from sellers of base 2011+ WRX's that are asking more than $26k. I guess there is some wishful thinking / trying to cover loan amounts going on.

Question: I'm going to take it up to the mountains this weekend (yep not wasting any time). What is the deal with cable chains?

    More specifically:

What are the best snow chains for my car? I have the 17" OEM wheels. Yes, I realize a set of steel wheels with snow tires are best, but I don't have the cash for that right now, and where I'm going, chains are legally required.

I've used cable chains before on my VW, but they have a tendancy to chew up the rims a little. I don't want that on my new car. Thoughts or recommendations?

Heck ya you should buy one!!! Look i was in the same boat as you but hard searching and persistence got me a new 2013 WRX hatch! Try doing a search out to at least 200 miles. Also google subaru dealers and your zip code and search one by one threw all there inventory! Dont settle for a used one they are just as expensive cause the WRX's hold there value better then a Harley! these are awsome cars and they are worth the work in everway! Good luck i hope you find one. I got my new 2013 WRX hatch for $25,640 OTD....

If you are talented you could try the paint method. But if you get it wrong,it is a PITA to correct. Since it is near impossible to chemically remove paint from plastic. You'll probably have to wet sand.

Otherwise an overlay would be the best way to go about this mod. Pre cut overlays are available. Some have had the overlays professionally installed by tint specialists.
