    I take delivery of a 2013 WRX 5-door Thursday

Hello all. My last car was a 2006 Honda S2000. I loved that car, but wanted a bit more versatility. I cross shopped a Mitsubishi Ralliart, but I think the WRX is the better of the two.

I'm getting the premium, with the short throw shifter and boost gauge.

I've got a couple of questions though.

How hard are these cars on tires?

Any special treatment needed for the turbo?

What can you expect mileage-wise if you drive reasonably?

What is the best option for tuning?

This is my first turbo car. From what I know, Subaru has a pretty durable package in this car that has been well sorted. All cars have weak points, or things to watch for. Would like to know what the Subie's are.

    Thanks,

    Red

Did I come to the wrong forum? I would have thought someone would at least say hello. No worries though...later.

    Same As any other car?

    No special treatment

    I average around 22 MPG

I use a Cobb Accessport. There are other cheaper options out there, look into opensource if you want to save money.

Weakpoints? My car has been solid after 10k and I've been stage 2 since about 3.5k. Weakpoints would be the intercooler endtanks blowing off under increased boost, transmission from launching, crap subaru paint, leaky bypass valve under increased boost.

Welcome man! What color are you getting? I have a OBP 2012 5-door hatch premium with short throw shifter and i love it. But im going to upgrade to an STi when the new model comes out.

As far as tires, its not bad at all, it all depends on how you drive man. If you consistently go sideways around a corner ya you tred is going to deteriorate.

Gas milage usually goes up after the car has been broken in... Not by a lot or anything but if you drive shifting at 2500 you can get 23-24mpg avg

And honestly if you want this thing to be a tank, you dont need to tune it. Save your money like i am and upgrade to an STI if you want a faster ride.

Thanks for responding. I modded my S2000, and the plan at least for now is to keep this one stock. Glad to hear yours is holding the upgrades well. Can't wait till Thursday.

Sometimes threads just get passed by, don't take it personally!

Tire wear depends more on the tire. I've read anecdotes that the stock tires wear on the quicker side, mine personally are doing pretty well after about 12k miles.

No special treatment needed for the turbo. On these cars they are liquid cooled so you don't need to let it run or anything like that when you stop driving.

Mileage, most people see 20ish with city driving, anywhere from 25-30 highway.

Tuning, well, there's a number of options. There are off the shelf maps such as what you get with the Cobb accessport. These are one size fits all and generally conservative but relatively safe. There are Etunes, and then there are of course protunes. All depends on how much money you want to spend, your location, what your plans are for the car, etc.

Hope these answers helped, assuming you come back!

The forum is not very active on weekends. Don't get so disgruntled. We're a friendly bunch

Slander! I for one would never fart around on a car forum whilst at my place of employment!

Thanks for the info. I'm getting the silver....would prefer gray, but I don't want to wait. I'm pretty mild most of the time as far as driving style goes. I just chewed up a set of rears on my S in20k miles.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks much!!

I wasn't taking it personal, just wanted to make sure I was in the right place.

I know the WRX is supposed to be pretty user friendly and reliable which is what I want. The differential in the S2000 is a big fail point if you launch hard (I don't). Being new, just wanted to get some good gouge from folks who would know. Appreciate folks taking the time to post up.
