I thought when you had a downpipe you had to get a stage 2 tune due to the fact the map for stage 1 was for the catted down and up pipe. My mistake if that is true, pardon me I was thought that having any WRX you had to get a stage 2 map the second you changed out the up pipe or down pipe. Huh. Well either way, I had thought the ECU was that sensitive and any small changed would require a tune.

I had similar questions. The up pipe requires no new map on any model. The down pipe requires no new map on bugeyes. My question was toward the difference between the two stage maps for the bugeyes. I have not looked at them in ages and don't recall and was just wondering etc.

It's a moot point since the person that has an AP can use the S2 map anywy. Just curious.

A bugeye does not require a tune with a downpipe, but the OP will also not see any gains with the addition of a DP. The same is true with the stage 1 tune. While it will work with a DP, the OP will not see any gains over a stage 1 tune without the 3" downpipe. So the moral of the story... why spend the money and time on a downpipe if you aren't going to tune for it?

Do you recall if there is something in their S1 map that would pose a problem on an S2 setup? Just curious.

I can't imagine there would be. The reason the bugeye could run a DP on the stock tune was due to the increased latency between open and closed loop transition. I have seen that the 2004+ 2.0L do in fact have decreased latency, but I admit I haven't looked at a S1 map very closely. I'll look today with ATR.

Don't waste too much time; it's more of a "I wonder" thing. When the bugeye first came out maps were not common and people just fitted exhausts. Their output did increase but the maps then allowed even more output, and smoother too.
