    What year and car?

My first mod would (and did) have nothing to do with power. I would start with the suspension or braking aspects first.

Sway bars and endlinks or a full brake overhaul (pads, rotors, stainless steel lines and fluid).

Only matters if you're 05 or older.

Yea I know that but the OP hadn't revealed what year his car was, and if it was older than 05 I was suggesting the uppipe.

Well, if you want to go down that route, then better tires should be first and foremost. Pick up a good set of summer rubber (many threads discussing brands/models already), and winter wheels/tires if you're in a part of Cali that sees snow.

I personally think the 1st mod any WRX/STI owner should do is get the car tuned. If you're just looking for a single mod and have nothing else planned, then I would recommend you get it professionally tuned. If you think you might do other mods at different time points, then I would highly recommend the Cobb Accessport (not only can you tune the engine, but you can run diagnostics on it too).

Either road ... the single best modification you could do. Trust me
