Legacy "All-in-one" integrated remote key swap

One can also get a switch blade key similar to Audi's for our cars.

This explains how you get an all in one key. It may not be important to a lot of folks but the separate "tear drop" remote business was getting annoying for both my pocket and my steering column (constant bumping/tapping against while driving). Anyway personal preference and I love it!

    Its super easy.

Order a blank Legacy Key from Subaru. 71.96

Have it cut for your car. 20 bucks at my local locksmith

Cut transponder out of valet key and insert into new key (5 mins).

While new key is open, get transmitter code from module and write it down.

Program new key using Subaru remote programing from manual (5 mins).

    Done!

Love that this can be done! The two-part car key/remote was my first disappointment in my new car. I couldn't believe it when I was handed the keys for the first time. Other manufacturers have been able to put remote locking in the key for well over a decade now, so why don't Subaru do this?!? I HATE extra crap in my pocket!

Take it a step further and go switchblade style like I did with the first mod on my 2012 WRX!

I don't mean to hi-jack the OP's thread but if you follow the link below and contact the member "xluben" via email (he will not respond to PMs or if you post in the thread), he can supply you the switchblade housing and key blank. The thread outlines the rest of the steps necessary to make the key work with a 2011/2012 WRX.

DIY: 2011/2012 WRX Flip / Switchblade Key - NASIOC

I came to Subaru after a 7 year stint with VW/Audi so needless to say I had become accustomed to a switchblade style key. When I found out this mod was possible it was the first thing I did. It cost me ~$100 total for the Legacy donor key, the switchblade housing and the laser CNC cutting, but it was totally worth it!

No problem. I mentioned it in my post too. Haven't decided on getting it myself, at the moment I am loving the all-in-one Legacy. But thanks for adding to this thread. More options ftw!
