New owner being hassled by the man about exhaust

I live in Colorado and within an hour of registering my 04WRX I got pulled over. The state patrol officer told me that I would have to install a stock exhaust or be susceptible to an $800.00 fine. I must note that the front license plate was not yet screwed on so I was drawing attention; front plate is mandatory in CO. Anyway it is a Cobb exhaust. I will begin posting some pics momentarily. I bought it in Las Vegas and it has quite a few after market modifications.

Seems quite direct to my layman's eyes. I'd install the correct part.

I am still learning be patient with me. I believe it is TBE because it has a Turbo/timer, it is faster than anything I have ever driven, and it is catless. Pics coming soon I promise just haven't quite figured it out.

If it is a catless exhaust, this is correct.

However, as I recall Cobb designed the catback to conform to the minimum national noise level requirement of 95 dB. If only a catback, you will not break laws.

Reading again, I agree with you, zax.

Now, if it's a catless exhaust the car is illegal anywhere in the US. In fact it may be illegal anywhere in the developed world.

If it's a catted exhaust with a fancy muffler, and that muffler doesn't make more noise than the correct muffler, then I suppose the car is technically OK but I'd not want to waste my time, the civil servants' time, and my money drawing attention, resolving disputes etc.

Turbo timers are irrelevant in this context; turbo timers have no direct connection to exhaust. Futhermore, with modern water-cooled turbos, the turbo timer's primary function is to waste the precious commodity known as Gasoline. My recommendation would be to remove this product from your car as 1.) It is obsolete 2.) It will waste fuel 3.) It will prevent the driver from parking the car correctly and in-gear.
