Yay, finally a subi owner, sooo many questions...

So I've been drooling over the world rally blue wrx sedans for years, and now I finally have one. Just snagged an 07 with just under 50k on it. Totally stock other than the touch screen stereo and window tint (which I'm pretty sure is way past legal in my state). I'm so glad I stumbled across this forum, seems to be pretty active. I have so many questions!
First and foremost, is it really necessary to sit and idle when you've arrived at your destination until you hear the fans come on then shut off? I had been told that when driving a turbo engine you have to do this or you can seriously damage your engine. I just feel like a major tard when I pull into the gas station and have to sit for a while before I turn off my car. Does everyone really do this????

Our turbos are oil and water cooled and come from the factory with a sufficient cooldown system. There's no need to sit and let the car idle.

Welcome! You only need to do that for air cooled turbos, which our cars are not as Dez said.

Dez pretty much hit the nail on the head; you don't need to let the car idle with a water-cooled turbo; the coolant continues to flow when the car is turned off.
