Hi everyone I'm new to this site and need some advice for my baby 02 wrx. I live in SoCal and although weather is beautiful here...it's hot. I've been Ridin with no ac and windows down for a while. I took her in at a dealership and was told it has a faulty expansion valve and receiver drier. Was quoted $1100 and some change or so. I took her home sad and not fixed
My question is...why the hell it cost so much? Or is it just labor charge? I don't know much about how to fix my car so I need ur advice what I should do. I was told also the turbo might be leaking cos it has this burning oil smell sometimes really bad sometimes no smell at all. I checked and there's no oil leak & I change it every 3months. I would hate to sell my wrx she's already paid off. Should I suck it up and pay all the repairs or give her up?

Two different issues. Find an independent A/C shop and an independent Subaru specialist and get quotes for the respective problems.

    Thx SD_GR
I may have found a place to bring her in to get the ac fixed for about $600. But about the other issue it happens intermittently when the car has been running for a while. Bad oil smell fr outside but haven't noticed any color change fr the exhaust. Is it the turbo leaking oil or could it be something else?

Not something that can be diagnosed remotely, at least not by me, sorry.
