I got my hatch because my wife liked it better (gotta keep the wife happy you know...) and I really wanted the added space. It also helped that it fell into my lap because someone ordered it then got tired of waiting for it. I got an even bigger surprise when I told my Geico rep the VIN number and my insurance went down (as others have mentioned) a bit off the pre-quoted sedan rate. It was just meant to be!

So what classifies a car as a "wagon" versus a "hatch?"

Is there a generally accepted difference?

This. The wagon has a C and D pillar separate whereas the hatch has no D pillar.

Insurance is weird at times. For some reason my motorcycle insurance considers my Z1000 and any Ducati as a standard bike so much lower insurance rather then for the Japanese sport bikes. Back to the subject of the thread. I really dont mind the hatch I prefer the look of the sedan with the STI spoiler but you can make both cars look good with a few changes (eg Hatch with tail light paint - Sedan Debadge) You cant go wrong with either since my last car was hatch ish I wanted something different.

Also didnt feel like the added cost of the extra replacment wiper blade because im sure overtime that makes the hatch impractical

I had the same question, but I preferred the look of the sedan. My big determinate was if I could fit my bike in the back. I told the dealer that I would not purchase the car if they didn't let me put my back in the back. It fit in the sedan with no problem.... I now own a silver limited sedan. :-)

lol Back on the ranch, I love the rear bumper and exhaust of the sedans, but I got a '12 hatch for the versatility. I think the 11-12 hatches look amazing, by the way. But I just wish I could get that cool bottom spoiler thing from the sedan between my exhaust pipes...

And maus said it best: DGM FTW. For... obvious reasons...

OK, so I'm pretty settled on a hatch in either DGM, Silver or WRB, premium or limited trim, and somewhere within a zillion miles of me that'll trade with my dealership.

    Wish me luck! lol.

It sort of does, doesn't it?

Now I'm looking on autotrader and cars.com and finding that there is a LOT of stock out there in base model trim. While I do love the limited and premium's all weather package, I have to wonder if it's REALLY that important to me or not. Since I'll usually garage the car anyway, it doesn't matter that much.... And having a car is better than not having it.

It's not THAT important...just more stuff that can potentially break/add weight. Although...living in Michigan...the heated seats are muy bueno in the winter.

I agree the silver blends in, but I have to say (and I can't believe I am because I have a wrb sedan) I think the hatch is the better looking vehicle of the two and if given the choice, I might take that one. I feel like the back end of the sedan is missing something, at least from that angle.

Also, be careful you dont get something just to get something, and then be upset you didnt wait to get what you really wanted. You seemed pretty excited about some of the options on the premium and limited, but your last comment looks like you might just pick up whatever you can at all costs. Its completely up to you, but I'm the same way with getting things I want. Just saying, make sure its what you want and not what you can get now

I'm gonna retract my previous statement and say that you SHOULDN'T get DGM. Sure, it's clearly the best and we have more sex, but I just saw a car identical to mine. In my own neighborhood. WTF? I don't want everybody to be driving my car!!

And cflip's picture proves my next point: the lighter colors on these WRXs makes the aggressive lines stand out a LOT. And I love that. I didn't really notice until I had already ordered my DGM, but the white and the light silver, IMO, look more aggressive to the noob/uneducated.
