1) doubt it, especially since he doesn't have a downpipe
2) yes
3) can't really predict what people you know will say
4) make sure all maintenance has been done. Also be careful with the tranny. If he has an upgraded clutch it can cause extra stress

Hey guys, so my co-worker is selling me his 07 wrx with 50,000 miles for 13,000
This of course is a really good deal, and i couldn't pass it up since im in the market looking for my next car. I never really thought i would ever own a subi one day because i heard the insurance was like hell with them, and idk...i always loved how they looked but never thought id get one one day. Anyways, i worked things out with the insurance and im barely going to be paying anything =)
So on this subi, its got an exhaust, intake, clutch, and tune, im not sure on the details, or how aggressive the tune is, all that info will come when i buy it from him, but he said the car is just as fast as an sti if not faster.
Now i don't know much about subis, and alot of the fun will come from learning about them, but i just have a few questions to just start off with.
1. With those mods, do you guys think this subi is as fast an sti? lets say a 07 sti since i know they've been getting faster and faster through the years.
2. I'm surprised that my co-worker never threw in a catless downpipe on it, as i've learned from alot of turbo cars, besides a tune, thats one of the best mods for power gains you can do, is that the same for the wrx?
3. When i get this wrx, is it going to be like...why get a wrx when you can get an sti type thing? haha like am i going to get **** for not just getting the sti? lol
4. What are some major things i need to know about the car? like what do i need to look out for? what blows easily on these cars?
Like i said, alot of the fun will come from learning about this car and i have a million questions about it, but for now, when i start out, i just want to know those few things.
Thanks for any help given guys =) and i look forward to talking with you guys again.

That is a great price for an 07 with only 50k! However, before you purchase the car you ought to have it checked over by a Subaru specialist. I know you're buying from your friend, but it's better safe than sorry.
Other than that I second everything Dez saidGood luck!
i was planning on getting it checked out, but you guys suggest i take it to a subaru specialist and not like an ordinary shop or friends that know subis? haha
and thanks for the help guys
If you trust the shop's knowledge on Subi's then sure. You just want an outside party to look the car over, especially because it is modded.
1. No. There is more to an STI than just power. The suspension, transmission, and brakes are much more sophisticated.
2. Catless downpipes are not typically recommended for the 06-07 cars as they are prone to boost creep with them installed. Catted downpipes are fine, and even pro touring cars use them in very high hp applications, so catless isn't a clear winner (cheaper, but it may or may not be registrable, depending on your locale).
3. No idea what your friends will say, but you won't get that here.
4. As stated, maintenance is key. A well cared for Subaru will last years and years. Have a mechanic perform a compression test and leakdown check, and check out the purchasing forums here for detailed checklists of things to look for when buying a used Subaru. Any Subaru dealer can do this for not a lot of money. Also, you say it has an exhaust, but does it have an aftermarket downpipe? A "catback" exhaust does not require a tune (or get you any real HP gains on its own). Find out EXACTLY what your friend has done to the car, and if it has a custom tune, find out where it's from and all contact information you can get. If anything happens down the road, it's much easier to have all that information up front than try and figure it out when your car is broken and you don't know why.

unless the turbo has been swapped out, bigger top mount, or front mount inter-cooler, bigger injector's, fuel pump, exhaust, and intake, your not touching an sti. Also Rambo is correct tranny, drive-train, axles, center diff. brakes and suspension diff. so track equals no, no, also.
Nobody is goin to give u hard time here bout not gettin STi, only SUBY LOVE here.
Agree with Rambo again, conmpression test, and cylinder leak down. SPECIALLY!! on MODDED WRX.

im pretty sure he said its a catback, but i just texted him for all the mod details and i'll let you guys know =)
so he said it has a apa catback exhaust, atc clutch, cai, he also threw in a short shifter, lol but he doesnt even know how much psi hes pushing *facepalm* but he said "my tuner was dyno comp".....
Is dyno comp a local tuner for your area?
i have no idea what that means haha, i was hoping you guys would know lol
I see, I would just ask him to be a little more specific about the tune. Basically where it was done and who did it. Get an address and a phone number if possible. Dyno comp doesn't ring any bells for me.
