    Recommendations for a used WRX?

Hi guys, a new WRX might not be in the cards for me right now, been doing some figuring with the calculator.
What would you guys recommend in the $5,000 to $10,000 range for a WRX 5-door model? Any models and years to avoid? This would become my daily driver after the smoke settles.

    $5K-10K will buy you a 2002-2004 WRX or possibly a higher-mileage 2005 WRX.

I would avoid any vehicle with significant modifications. Other than that, there are various improvements to each model year:

1.) 2002 WRX, WRX released to USDM
2.) 2003 WRX, loses brake ducts and gains uprated transmission
3.) 2004 WRX, better stock struts (dual-phase) and shim-less buckets on heads, ECU reflash, dual-cone first gear synchros, facelift
4.) 2005 WRX, received STi steering rack, bushing improvements

IMO, the improvements over these years are not significant. Perhaps the -BA transmission upgrade is worth noting if you plan on modifying. However, be aware that some 2002 WRX also received this upgrade and some 2003 WRX did not.

Definitely don't want a modified WRX, who needs to inherit some "Fast and the Furious" wannabee's problems. Thanks for the input Zax.
