    My intro

    Hi to everyone!
I just got my wrx, a week ago. While I have old experience, now I'm all full of Q's.
A bit of my history: 20 yrs ago I was into Rally Escorts, back in Germany. While it was fun, there was never a turbo in sight at all. Had to abandon this playground due to external circumstances. For many years now I've been driving the "normal" stuff: Aerostar, U.S.Escort, Jeep GC V8, Suzuki Sidekick, Ram 1500 Hemi, BMW1100RT. OK, that last one is not quite the everyday but usability is very restricted. Living in Colorado, I need to have 4WD or AWD, since I have to be able to get to work in the worst of conditions. So finally I wore down the wife and got to buy a WRX. (BTW, she likes it after all and is considering buying one for herself, toward the end of the year.) It's an 09, 32KMls on the clock. It is modified, but I don't know what I'm looking at. There's a front mounted intercooler, under the bumper. There's modded suspension. There's larger than stock calipers and slotted front disks. Short shifter. Some body moulding...
So here I am, trying to find out more and see how things go. First I'd like to show what I am dealing with and try to find out more about it. I'm trying to attach Pics, not sure how that's going to work out. Take a look at the attached pics and let me know what you guys (and girls) think. What is what and what does it do.
Then the first mod I'm contemplating (probly next year, have to get winter wheels first ;-)): with that intercooler, do I still need the hood scoop? I'l like to replace with regular hood, no scoop. Make it look less intimidating. But still have all the go... Now what I mean?!
Also, I seem to have trouble with the TPMS, it keeps showing me the light, even though I have the recommended 32-33 psi cold. Maybe not cold enough? Right now I've stepped it up almost 1psi...
Thanks in advance for any responses, infos.

    Welcome.

You also have an intake(I'm guessing Perrin).

Do you still have the stock wheels? It may be that you have aftermarket wheels without TPMS sensors.Which is why the light is on.

No, the wheels are factory. 255-45/17 ZR Goodyear Eagle, new. I had more air in the tires, light went out. But I'm concerned for the tires, don't want to ruin them, costly... So just how much leeway is there for tire pressure?

    Welcome!

The Escorts were good times back then. Escort vs. Ascona vs. 131 brings back lots of memories.

    Enjoy the club.

Sad thing is: I actually know those... The Ascona, perfectly civil version, was my training car when I went thru the german driving school for my license, at 18 as it is there.

    Welcome to the club!

Can you post some pics of the turbo? It looks like it might be a pretty nice set of modifications - probably an autocross car. With that level of modification I would highly recommend that you log the car and see how it is doing. The openport cable is a fantastic investment.

    Datalogging with Romraider:

You can easily run your tires 5 psi over without wearing the center off at all.

Time flies! I never understood what my elders meant until recently but it's true - one day, looking back it seems like yesterday but it was tears ago.

Thanks, that helps. I'll reset to 34-35 tomorrow.
On that data logging: seems like a good starting point. But: the source for the cable seems to not have it, found only an extension cable for the OBD. I've got the parts to make one, but would need the pin-out. Any suggestions?

BTW: Looks like we're off to a good start. Pic of the turbo I'll post tomorrow. I was under the impression that it's factory, but what do I know?

OK, as requested, here's some more pics. Not sure what one can identify on the turbo, all I could make out was some letters/numbers on the "bellyband" around the center of the turbo....
I think the front brakes might be STI brakes, not sure...
Otherwise, this is what it looks like.
On DataLogger: is the $170 Adapter what it takes? The datalogging is going to happen, but not right now...That would be something that can't be wired plug-to-plug. I will have to save that up, the wife is gonna kill me! She is not into tuning. Thank God we didn't know jack when we bought this.

Any more ideas as to what I've got here?
