I had some problems clearing when I was a kid, that sucks. Usually it is the full lap underwater that gets people.

That sucks. Have you tried decongestants? Helped my wife a great deal when needed on occasion. Problem with airplane travels, too?

The 30 minutes of treading/floating was the hardest. I was a skinny kid and couldn't backfloat: I sank like a rock.

That's where my first try went under, literally.
Made it on the second go-around, in a swimming pool.
And, no, I'm not into the salt water aquarium, WAY to much work. We had a neighbor that was into it, he had an impressive set-up. A whole number of tanks, mounted in tiered drawers, it was a sight! My picture to the left is one I took when diving. Sometime I'll find some more and change as I fell the need. So don't get used to that one...

Nope. May have to do with humidity?

I've always been scared of decongestants. They always tell you how if you use a decongestant, then it wears off while you're diving, then you won't be able to clear on the way up, and you might blow your tympanum

I had a fair amount of problems with my sinuses during diving. During allergy season, it was so bad I could hardly dive 25 feet. It was always bad enough that I could never dive the full 50 feet without my sinuses causing extreme pain.

I later found out that I have a deviated septum (god knows why) and it results in poor nasal drainage. I'm VERY susceptible to sinus infections.

Have you guys with the sinus problems tried flying? Might be interesting..., not sure how that works out. I've done a good bit of Cessna flying, there you are also equalizing, it's pretty much the same, just in reverse...

I've only flown in a pressurized cabin. Even that can be miserable.

They pressurize only to 6-10 k feet altitude. So even the "pressurized" cabin is flying at that altitude... while the plane itself it at some 30 40 k feet... So it's like being here in colorado, like Denver... And anyways, that business is miserable for sheer basic principle: you get to sit in a tight chair, with some fatso on both sides of you and they don't even let you walk around anymore. I usually have to make up a story of just HAVING to go bathroom, just to strech my legs.

The 787 cabin will have a pressurization equal to sea-level (760mmhg). After seeing the development first hand from the very first prototype on the Autoclave, I'm really excited to fly in one

I really don't care for commercial flying. I'd rather be doing it myself. I just sometimes have to, kinda hard to drive or swim across the atlantic...

I don't like it either, but I have little choice in the matter. Flying is a necessity for me.

And at this point I think it's time to start a new thread about flying... ;-)
