The service manager told me that they all came with the package because I just asked to get the oil changed instead.

what do i need to perform an oil change myself in my driveway? I'm new to the whole car scene and would like to do the oil change myself. I know i probably need jacks, a container to drain the oil into, and maybe some tools?

In order to change the oil you need a jack,if possible get a low profile Jack they are much easier. Make you you have Jack stands to set the car on for safety reasons. After that you will need I think a size 12mm socket and a screw driver to pull off the bolts and tabs off the plastic piece under the engine. You will also need a 17mm socket or wrench to get the oil plug out. And maybe an oil filter wrench to get the filter off and of course a container to catch the oil in.

And then you'll need a field with some baby penguins in it to throw your discarded oil on...

Seriously though, properly discarding of the oil can be the toughest part of the job. Make sure there is somewhere you can take it.

Hey the used oil i toss on baby penguins i see it as a protective coat for them. But seriously you do want to discard it properly i agree with calvinball

The dealer did mine for me at 1k also for free. And i have 3 more free oil changes that they will be doing for free. After those 3 ill be doing then myself, because even dealerships have horror stories. Ofcourse the dealer is less likely to screw up then say jiffy lube, the possibility is still there. Only thing is if you know you screwed up you kick your own ass for it and not anyone elses lol.

I havnt been under my car yet, but if an oil change means removing any sort of tabs i worry. Those 2 dollar brittle tabs may become weak over time especially when removing them with a screw driver. Yikes. Maybe ill invest in that tab popper tool thingy lol

aah, forgot about discarding of the oil. I'll have to do research and find a place within a few weeks when it comes time for an oil change. It doesn't sound all too difficult, I'm guessing i jack the front up, put the jack stands under it, and then go ahead and preform the oil change.

I could not get my salesman to give me a free oil change for first time since he indicated I did not disclosed my trade-in had a winshield crack after on already agreed sales price. I reckon with WRX is little bit more pricey for standard oil change than my TC Scion which runs $39.00.

Is there a cost to discard used oil with any of these stores?

    No cost.

I think they get some type of deal/discount/tax break/something for recycling oil. So they want as much as they can get.
