    Hopeful owner from NY.

Hey, I'm a lllooonnnggg time wrx fan finally thinking about pulling the trigger on my dream car I've lurked here for a bit trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can while I look for a reasonably priced, and not beat to pieces wrx. I may have finally found what I've been after in a 2004 sedan. 57k mi, 1 owner, all stock etc. Carfax/autocheck came back clean but they have very little service history on the car. Anyways glad to be here, and wish me luck!

Looks like a very nice clean car and a great deal! I'm trying to find a nice WRX myself, but I just don't know yet because I don't really want to sell my jeep yet. I'd have to sell it to get a WRX, but I've got a long time to decide. Hope you get it because it looks really nice!!

Buy it! You will not find a WRX with that mileage for that price again. I have been hunting for a while now and have yet to find any 04-05 WRX with less than 60k below $15,000.

Thanks for the welcomes! Jamir, yup I'm a Rochester native. I've driven the car twice now and it feels excellent. Still worried because the dealer knows zilch about the car's history or anything about wrx's in general. Decisions decisions.

Hello and welcome to the Club!

Best of luck with the 2004. The one I bought new has been mostly excellent.

Just take it (or have them take it) to a mechanic you trust and have them do a used car inspection. Most mechanics do this for around $50-$100 depending on what they look at.

I think that's going to be the next step. Pardon the noobish question here but I was reading the "used car buying thread"(exact title escapes me) and I really want to get a compression/leakdown test before purchase along with having an oil sample taken. Question is, are these things a Subaru dealer can do or would I need to find a specialist?

Pretty much any decent mechanic can do a compression/leakdown test. As for the oil sample you're gonna have to find a specialist. I would just ask the mechanic you take it to if they can or know someone who can.

Well bad news and good news. I couldn't pull the trigger on the '04. After looking at my finances I just couldn't justify the increase in car loan. I did however find a very nice '02 sedan. 90k on it but all stock and 1 owner. Wish me luck there's still a chance for me yet lol.

Good decision with your finances. I saved for years before I bought my car. At least then I could pay cash.

Any link to the bugeye? I would especially look at the gearbox condition and maint. records, since the '02s have weaker gears than later models, and are more prone to gear failure. However, this is a very general statement, and may or may not ever be an issue, just something to be mindfull of. All stock and one owner is a great sign though!

Thanks for the advice. I thought I remembered reading something about the trans on the 2002s. Anything specific I can check on the tranny aside from shifter/clutch feel? Heres a link to the car. And yes it is overpriced.
